The Ohrid City & St. Naum Tour starts with St. Sophia cathedral temple of Ohrid archbishops the large and most magnificent preserved monument of church architecture with frescoes from 11th century.
We will visit the Antic theatre from 3rd century B.C. in Varos and St. Holy Virgin Peribleptos - the extraordinary architecture and stunning paintings which dates from 1925, one of the most significant medieval monument in Macedonia. The frescoes are works of medieval painters Michael and Eutyhchios. The Gallery of icons - one of the most valuable in the world with collection of icons created 11th-14th centuries.
We will make a tour in The Samuel's Fortress 3km long and dominates the town built by tsar Samoil 10th century. Early Christian basilica probably built and decorated in 5th century when Lihnidos was important Early Christian Episcopical centre.
We continue in Plaosnik St.Panteleimon and St.Clement first church was built in 893 and it was a first Slavic university. The church include St.Clements's tomb.
At the end we visit St.Jovan Kaneo which dates from 13th century, a favorite symbol of Ohrid standing alone on the lakeshore on a cliff with magnificent views.
The tour continues with boat excursion to St.Naum monastery complex (30km) located on the south coast of Lake Ohrid and once was one of the wealthiest and most powerful spiritual centers in the Balkans. The original church and monastery was built in 900 by St.Naum a pilgrim and healing center in a church was berried St.Naum in 910, in a small beautifully frescoed chapel. St.Naum was one of the pupils of Kiril and Metodij. He was well known by the many miracles and by healing the people. The church was demolished during the ottoman period and later it was rebuilt - first the naos, than two domes. The fresco-painting was finished 1806, and the iconostasis in 1711. Here are the springs of river Crn Drim, the biggest springs on the Ohrid coast. The whole place is a special due to its rare natural beauty, the clear waters and the serenity it offers. Not fare from the monastery is the border crossing St.Naum with Albania.
